Q: My 2.5 year old has a hemangioma on his forehead. We saw Dr. Ilona Frieden a
year ago and will see her again in February. I’d be interested to hear if you
chose to have laser treatment and what the outcome was. I’m keen to wait as long
as possible before we take action.
A: We did choose to have our first laser treatment just 6 weeks ago, but only
because Dr. Frieden finally recommended it. If she was on the fence, we wouldn't
have asked for it. But we trust her so much when she said we should give it a
try, my husband and I both agreed. The outcome is good. The hemangioma is
definitely lighter in color. We went back couple days ago for our second
treatment. I’m hoping the outcome will be even better this time because Dr.
Frieden was pretty conservative with our first treatment, setting the laser at
pretty a low strength. She was a bit more aggressive this time, so hopefully the
hemangioma will lighten up even more noticeably. It’s too early to tell though
after only 2 days. Dr. Frieden is such an expert that I can *almost* laugh at
myself now for being such a nervous wreck before the first treatment. The actual
treatment took seconds and my baby was handled so safely and competently I
actually jokingly asked Dr. Frieden to "zap" him a few more times when she asked
me how I felt about the procedure. All those months that I was worried sick
about the laser treatment was pretty much self-torture in hindsight. We’re in
really good hands. Good luck to you whatever course of action you decide to
take!
