I recommend a hard one because it supports the baby better. If you're using the
Boppy, I've tried it and besides being too soft in my opinion, the way the
cushion is rounded doesn't support the baby at the level of my chest to
breastfeed comfortably--instead, he slumped into the gap between the cushion and
my belly. I definitely prefer My Brest Friend both for the firmer material as
well as the flat surface. I'm still using it even though my boy is turning 11
months old this week!

My wife is using a nursing cushion with a similar shape, but it looks softer
than the one you use (My Brest Friend). Do you recommend a soft or hard one? I
think I have seen something similar, so I think I will get it if you recommend
it.
