Q: Hello, my 6-month-old daughter has a hemangioma on her forehead. I’m looking for a specialist in Northern California to take her to. Do I need to get a referral from her pediatrician? I thought I heard of one in San Francisco. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

A: I’ve been taking my son to Dr. Ilona Frieden at UCSF since he was 8 weeks old. I was told she’s the expert certainly in the Bay Area if not nationally. I had to wait ~6 weeks to see her, so that’s the only downside—she’s quite booked, so you’ll wanna call ASAP plus try to see if your pediatrician can get you in sooner.
