Q: Should I give my nanny notice? I like her, but don’t think she’s worth the
money we’re paying her. She’s showing up later and leaving earlier, leaving toys
around the house, not cleaning up after herself or our little one. Bottom line
is: we don’t want to keep her. I’m wondering when you gave notice if you found
that the quality of work deteriorated or if it was so awkward that you wish you
hadn’t given notice. Any feedback on your experience would be helpful! Thanks!
A: The one time we let our nanny go, we didn’t give her any notice. I was in a
similar situation where I could have lived with her, but her performance was
borderline, so when our old nanny who was much much better wanted to work for us
again, we couldn’t say no. My husband does have a fear that if we give her (or
any nanny) notice that she might do something to our baby behind our backs--you
just never know and there was no way he was willing to take that risk. So
unfortunately we gave her no notice, but we did pay her extra, so much so that
she only took half of it.
Hope this helps!
