Play music or not?

A few thoughts: first, I wonder if Damien is still not distinguishing between day and night yet. Some people say newborns' internal clocks are "upside-down" from the time they were in utero--some moms thought when they were pregnant their baby was most active during the night when they were resting. So it takes time for newborns to figure out it's the other way round--nights are for sleeping, days are for activities. Second, when babies are in their moms' bellies, there are lots of noises, such as her her heartbeat, bodily fluids and functions. Many people believe babies are calmed by similar noises after they're born and apparently things like the hair dryer and vacuum cleaner sound like the noises in mommies' tummies, so I've heard parents turn these on to soothe their babies. Some parents buy a white noise machine, which help some babies fall and stay asleep. You may want to look into a white noise machine for Damien to see if it works? Third, it's totally fine to play music before he sleeps at night and it's actually a good thing if he becomes reliant on it to fall asleep! Parents are supposed to figure out and establish a bedtime routine for their babies when they get older, say 3 months, because as they become more alert, they need cues to let them know it's bedtime. Many parents incorporate singing lullabies or playing a lullaby CD for their babies as part of the bedtime ritual. Other popular choices are reading a bedtime story, taking a bath, nursing/bottle-feeding, and rocking/cuddling. One thing to note is I've read that you shouldn't keep the music on after the baby falls asleep because it may affect the quality of his sleep, but it doesn't sound like you were going to keep the music on. ;) So long story short, I say go for the music before he sleeps and try a white noise machine to see if that helps him sleep longer!

According to the log, Damien seems to sleep better (longer) during the day time when there is noise around him. When it comes to night time, he seems to wake up more frequently. I am wondering if I should play music before he sleeps at night. If I do play music, would he become reliant on it to fall asleep? What are your thoughts on this?
