Taking progesterone (or something else) to lengthen luteal phase?

Sorry I just realized I posted more acronyms without explanation. AF means Aunt Flo means menstruation. :)

I think I am too used to "talking" in acronyms on message boards.

2ww = 2 week wait (post ovulation/BD (baby dance - you know, the deed ;-)) and when AF is due or when HPT (Home Pg Test) might come back positive

ART = Artificial Reproductive Technology (i.e. artificial insemination (IUI) or IVF, etc.)

TTC - Trying To Conceive

RE = Reproductive Endocrinologist (i.e. Fertility doctor)

there are more acronyms here - http://www.fertilethoughts.com/index.php?Itemid=51&id=35&option=com_content&task=view
By the way, if you like to chart and track your cycles - this is a good website for charting - http://www.fertilityfriend.com/

I'm not familiar with some of your terms...what's 2ww? And ARTS? TTC? REs? Forgive my ignorance!

A lot of women dealing with infertility take progesterone to help during 2ww. Progesterone is typically prescribed during the 2ww after any ARTS treatment. In the US, most women take progesterone either as shots every day (ouch) or by using a vaginal cream (yuck). I believe these have to be prescribed. My personal experience is that OBs are not that great on helping with TTC struggles. REs are much better.

Q: So after charting for a few months, I realize that the reason I might not be getting pregnant is because my luteal phase is too short. That essentially means that even though I very well may be getting pregnant every month, my progesterone level is dropping and so my uterine lining is shedding early and not allowing the fertilized egg to attach. I am going to talk to my OB but wanted to ask if you know anyone who has taken progesterone in any form in an effort to length the luteal phase or any nutritionists who might have suggestions as to what I can consume to help me in my efforts. Thanks!

A: I have the exact same issue! I just realized it after charting for couple months. I haven't called my OB yet because I’m hoping it’s going to self-correct...but this month isn't looking good...I think I ovulated on day 23 or day 24 and my cycle is usually only 31 or 32 days. I think I have a glimmer of hope that it’ll self-correct though because I just weaned my baby earlier this month and I’ve read that the prolactin hormone which is present during breastfeeding basically reduces the length of the luteal phase. Have you been breastfeeding until recently also?
