Study: Male circumcision helps prevent 2 STDs

Circumcision or not? That's such a big question. The debate has been going on for a while. A study is throwing in a little support for the ay side. However, the influential American Academy of Pediatrics hasn't changed its position on the issue based on the new findings. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090325/ap_on_he_me/med_circumcision_stds_2 Bobo Dad

Preterm birth can have persistent effect

A report shows that many 12-year-olds who were born prematurely with a very low birth weight have lower IQs and more developmental problems than similarly aged children who were born at term. http://www.reutershealth.com/archive/2009/03/16/eline/links/20090316elin017.html As some of you know, my son was a preemie. So far he has been doing great. Hopefully, he will continue to grow and develop like other full-term babies. Bobo Dad

Seven superfoods for pregnant women

From SFGate (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfmoms/detail?&entry_id=36593): The seven superfoods listed are sardines, swiss chards, frozen wild berries, kidney beans, spelt, sesame seeds, and plain yogurt. Looks like this list of food would be good for new moms and even new dads. :-)

Cord Blood Bank

Although we have banked Damien's umbilical cord blood in a private bank, I am not 100% sure if it can really save life. Do you know if there are any recorded cases that cord blood has saved lifes?

Play music or not?

According to the log, Damien seems to sleep better (longer) during the day time when there is noise around him. When it comes to night time, he seems to wake up more frequently. I am wondering if I should play music before he sleeps at night. If I do play music, would he become reliant on it to fall asleep? What are your thoughts on this?

Nursing cushion - hard or soft?

My wife is using a nursing cushion with a similar shape, but it looks softer than the one you use (My Brest Friend). Do you recommend a soft or hard one? I think I have seen something similar, so I think I will get it if you recommend it.

Feeding hours

We are feeding Damien with 4 hr intervals, 100, 500, 900, 1300, 1700 and 2100. I am tempted to delay the feeding time by 1 hour so that we wake up once only at night. What is your recommendation?

Welcome!

It's amazing how I could read all these books, take all these classes, talk to all my friends who're already parents preparing myself to be a mom, and still! The things I wish I knew about newborns! Like how come no one ever told me about crying it out? That's for sure one of my worst experiences as a mom and on the top-10-I-wish-I-knew-earlier-list. Perhaps my mommy and daddy friends didn't want to scare me with the real deal of …
