ISO advice on letting nanny go
Q: Should I give my nanny notice? I like her, but don’t think she’s worth the money we’re paying her. She’s showing up later and leaving earlier, leaving toys around the house, not cleaning up after herself or our little one. Bottom line is: we don’t want to keep her. I’m wondering when you gave notice if you found that the quality of work deteriorated or if it was so awkward that you wish you hadn’t given notice. Any feedback … |

Do you use a Grobag?
Q: And if so, do you like it? I just got one (6-18 months) from Amazon and it looks huge. It looks like it’d be really hard for my little one to move around in it. I’d appreciate hearing about your experience with them. Or if you've found something similar that you prefer. I just find that the fleece Halo bags aren't warm enough. Thank you. A: I love the Grobags! I don't use any other brands. I bought the … |

Hemangioma specialist in California
Q: Hello, my 6-month-old daughter has a hemangioma on her forehead. I’m looking for a specialist in Northern California to take her to. Do I need to get a referral from her pediatrician? I thought I heard of one in San Francisco. Any help is appreciated. Thank you! A: I’ve been taking my son to Dr. Ilona Frieden at UCSF since he was 8 weeks old. I was told she’s the expert certainly in the Bay Area if not nationally. … |

My son keeps climbing out of his crib--help!
Q: The first time he climbed out was at 19 months out of a pack-n-play and, luckily, he wasn't injured. Then, the other night, he started screaming like a wild child so I came in to check on him and he was dangling by his hands and feet from the top rail of his crib. It took him forever to stop shaking, so I brought him to bed with us, and it was an awful night of sleep. I would … |

Portable DVD player
Q: We’re looking to buy a portable DVD player, preferably nothing too big around 7 inches in width with a longer lasting battery for international travel. Any recommendations? A: My husband just got us a Panasonic DVD-LS86 for international travel. It's more like 8 or 9 inches in length though, but the battery supposedly lasts 13 hours. I haven't timed it to see if it lives up to it, but it does seem to last a long time. Hope this … |

Strawberry hemangioma -- experience with laser treatment?
Q: My 2.5 year old has a hemangioma on his forehead. We saw Dr. Ilona Frieden a year ago and will see her again in February. I’d be interested to hear if you chose to have laser treatment and what the outcome was. I’m keen to wait as long as possible before we take action. A: We did choose to have our first laser treatment just 6 weeks ago, but only because Dr. Frieden finally recommended it. If she was … |

Taking progesterone (or something else) to lengthen luteal phase?
Q: So after charting for a few months, I realize that the reason I might not be getting pregnant is because my luteal phase is too short. That essentially means that even though I very well may be getting pregnant every month, my progesterone level is dropping and so my uterine lining is shedding early and not allowing the fertilized egg to attach. I am going to talk to my OB but wanted to ask if you know anyone who … |

Washing the Ergo
Q: Just wondering when you washed the Ergo did the shape/fabric change at all? Did you just follow the instructions given as far as washing and drying? Thank you! I didn't want any surprises when I pop it the washing machine as it’s about time I do so. A: I’ve washed my Ergo several times. I just follow the instructions given and I don't notice any changes in its shape or fabric. I sometimes wash it on its own and … |

Baby insists on warm milk--how to do this when on the go?
Q: My son won't drink breastmilk or formula unless it’s quite warm. So I can only go places with him if there’s a microwave. He won't drink the powder formula so he gets the ready-to-drink liquid kind which I can’t mix with hot water to heat up. I tried one of those gel packs that activate when you snap a button but after couple uses that broke. I bought a bottle warmer that plugs into the car but it takes … |
